Howdy! Welcome to my Reflective Journal for my Archival Practicum. This will be a weekly log of the progress of my practicum project. My archival project is taking place at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS, where I work. My office is in the Rare Book Room at the Bob and Kathy Luke Architecture Library, aka the CAAD Library. CAAD stands for the College of Architecture, Art, and Design. This branch library is located inside the Architecture Building, which is a historical building on campus.
The HVAC system in the room is no longer functioning properly, so we will move most of the collection from the CAAD Rare Book Room to Special Collections in the Mitchell Memorial Library, our main library on campus. My project is to catalog the contents of the room prior to the move. The room houses books, maps, portfolios, and architectural plans. I will be documenting several factors for each item, as applicable. These include title, author, copyright date, current value, description, location data, ISBN number, dimensions, library call number, library id number, and any other relevant notes. This information will be collected into an excel spreadsheet which will be submitted to the Special Collections department upon transfer of materials.
