This week we take a look at the proper way to securely tie a book that is falling apart. I hope you enjoy the lesson! Not only is this book obviously damaged, but the string that is holding it together is about to fall apart.

You knew it was coming. This is the section that looks at a few of the portfolios we have here in our rare book room. These include a rare portfolio of Carnegie Libraries, a Frank Lloyd Wright portfolio, and several others that aren’t shown, simply because they are so heavy!

Beauty can come in many forms. There were some items that I thought were really beautiful. The creativity or the intricacy of the designs. I love the colored spines, the gold gilding on the covers, and even the beautiful pictures inside. These are a few examples that really captured my eye.

Books wind up in archives for a variety of reasons. They may be extremely rare, damaged, or have historical value. They may be a necessary part of a library’s core collection. Sometimes they are all of these things. The books in this gallery are important to the core collection, damaged, and expensive.

People love to write inscriptions, dedications, or just notes inside books. Sometimes we come across a signature by the actual author, which increases the value of the object. This page shows a few off the signatures I’ve found while working on this project.
